A prominent Israeli settler leader congratulated on Wednesday US President-elect Donald Trump on his electoral victory over Hillary Clinton and said he would be welcome to visit Jewish communities in the West Bank during his time in office.
“I invite him to become the first active US president to visit our flourishing communities and witness how our presence in Judea and Samaria is key to ensure a peaceful future for millions of Palestinians and Israelis,” Oded Revivi — the mayor of Efrat and the chief foreign envoy of the Yesha Council (the umbrella organization of municipal councils of Jewish communities in the West Bank) — said in a statement.
In an interview with The Algemeiner last week, senior Trump adviser David Friedman said a Trump administration would not expect the Jewish state to uproot its citizens who now live in the West Bank and east Jerusalem within the framework of any future Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.
“It is inconceivable there could be a mass evacuation on that magnitude, in the unlikely event that there was an otherwise comprehensive peace agreement,” Friedman said. “It makes no sense for Judea and Samaria to be ‘Judenrein [void of Jews],’ any more than it makes sense for Israel to be ‘Arabrein [void of Arabs].’ It’s not fair.”
Two months ago, as reported by The Algemeiner, the Israeli branch of Trump’s campaign opened an office in the West Bank community of Karnei Shomron to court absentee voters.
