David Yarus
Founder of JSwipe
David Yarus, the 28-year-old founder of the Jewish dating app JSwipe, has said that he first created it as “kind of as a joke.”
The app, characterized as a blend of JDate and Tinder, targets millennial Jews worldwide. At last count, the app had more than a quarter-million users in 70 countries, most of them in the United States and Israel.
This is how it works: When viewing the profile of a prospective date, swipe right and a Star of David with a happy face appears; swipe left and it wears a frown. When two people match, animated figures appear dancing the hora.
In addition to fostering Jewish continuity through JSwipe, Yarus also finds time to be a mensch, assisting Jewish organizations with social media on a pro bono basis.
